Night is considered by many the first ever film noir (filmed almost a year before Huston's The Maltese Falcon) but unfortunately it didn't get distribution until 1946 making Huston considered the patriarch of film noir. Button's film didn't get released at 1941 with the excuse that people wanted to see Olivia de Havilland and not just her shadow...
