Tom Noonan's What Happened Was... ran as a play for 5 weeks at Noonan's Paradise Theater on E. 4th Street in New York City in the Spring of 1992. This is the version of the film Noonan and DP Joe Desalvo shot on Beta video there using the still-standing set in order to rehearse the eventual 35mm film location shoot as much as possible before hand, as recounted by Noonan in various interviews:
