The Real World is the first season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. It was created by producers Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray. The first cast consisted of seven people who were paid $2,600 to appear on the series. The cast was filmed living in a SoHo loft from February 16 to May 18, 1992, The series premiered May 21 that year. This was the first of three seasons to be filmed in New York City. In 2001 the show made a repeat visit with The Real World: Back to New York, and in 2008, set its twenty-first season, The Real World: Brooklyn, in the borough of Brooklyn.

The Real World: California is the second season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of several diverse strangers living together for several months, as the cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. The Los Angeles season featured a total of nine cast members over the course of the season, as one cast member was evicted and replaced, and another was replaced when she got married. The Real World expanded from 13 to 21 episodes with this season. The season, which documented 22 weeks of the cast's interactions, began with two cast members being flown to Nashville and then spending ten days driving cross country to Venice Beach in a Winnebago, picking up a third cast member in Owensboro, Kentucky along the way.

The Real World: San Francisco is the third season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. It was the second season of The Real World to be filmed in California after The Real World: Los Angeles in 1993. The Real World: San Francisco is noteworthy for the depiction of Pedro Zamora's struggle with AIDS, and his and other cast members' confrontations with David "Puck" Rainey, which led to Rainey's eviction. This conflict provided considered what Entertainment Weekly calls emotional high points for the season, and are credited with making The Real World a hit, for which it was ranked #7 on Time magazine's list of 32 Epic Moments in Reality-TV History. The season is also notable for featuring the first-ever same-sex commitment ceremony on TV, between Zamora and his partner, Sean Sasser.

The Real World: Boston is the sixth season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. The Boston cast lived in a converted historic firehouse at 127 Mt. Vernon Street, Boston, Massachusetts, which is located right off of Charles Street and was also used in the television series Spenser: For Hire. The show made its debut in 1997. This was the only season to be filmed in New England, and the second season to be filmed in the Northeastern United States. The season ran for 25 episodes, which was the most for any season until it was surpassed by the Las Vegas season.

June 16, 1998

Set on Pier 70 with a stunning view of Seattle's Elliott Bay, this Real World features--for the first time--cast members who knew each other before arriving at the house. To give the show a new music twist, the seven strangers work as "modulators" at alterna-rock radio station, 107.7 The End. What begins as a series of promotional duties eventually leads to producing and hosting a live radio show. The gang has to deal with major issues ranging from the perils of long-distance relationships to suicide. Later in the season, the cast members travel to Nepal in support of their various radio station duties. And who can forget Stephen's goodbye slap for Irene?

The Real World: Hawaii is the eighth season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. First airing in 1999, the cast lived in a modern beach house in Honolulu, Hawaii. This was the second of five seasons to be filmed outside of the continental United States, the only season not named after a city, and the first season set in the United States to be filmed outside of the mainland United States. It is notable for the cast's concerns over castmate Ruthie Alcaide's excessive drinking, resulting in her leaving the house to enter an alcohol treatment program, which is cited as one of the series' memorable moments by Time magazine.

The Real World: New Orleans is the ninth season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. The series was filmed from January to May 2000 in the Belfort Mansion on St. Charles Avenue, and first aired on MTV later that year, with the cast living in a remodeled Civil War-era mansion, called The Belfort, in the Garden District, New Orleans. It was the second of four seasons to be filmed in the American South, the first being The Real World: Miami in 1996.

The Back to New York season was filmed January 9 to June 2, 2001, and premiered later that year, with the cast living in a four-floor loft at 632 Hudson Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. As its title indicates, Back to New York was the first season of The Real World to take place in a city that had hosted a previous season, as the show's first season was set in New York in 1992.

The Real World: Chicago is the 11th season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. The Chicago season debuted in 2002, with its cast living in a converted bookstore/coffeehouse in the Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. This was the first and to date the only season of The Real World to be filmed in the Midwestern United States. This was the first season in which production would start months after wrapping the previous season allowing filming and broadcasting almost immediately unlike the usual annual season.

Premiering in September 2002, the Las Vegas cast lived in a converted penthouse suite on the 28th floor of the Las Vegas Palms Casino and Resort. The Las Vegas season was the second highest-rated season of the series after 2002's Chicago installment. This was the fourth season of The Real World to be filmed in the western United States. The season ran for 28 episodes, which along with the Denver season, is the highest number to date.

Series co-creator Jonathan Murray explained the choice of Cancun, saying, "Cancun is a good one to do after Brooklyn, which was a more gritty environment."

Washington, D.C. was officially announced as the location for the newest season on June 10, 2009. Filming began on July 2, 2009 and completed on October 12, 2009. The season's December 30, 2009 premiere was watched by 1.9 million viewers. The March 31, 2010 season finale was watched by 1.1 million viewers, the record low at the time for a season finale of the The Real World. The finale was immediately followed with a reunion special, The Real World: Washington D.C. Reunion. Overall the season averaged 1.5 million viewers a week.

This is the second season of the program located in New Orleans, after the ninth season, which aired in 2000. This season also marks the third city to be re-used as a season's location, following New York City in the 10th and 21st seasons, and Los Angeles in the 20th season.
